A major fundraising drive is set to take place on August 25 at Masheruka Girls S.S, aimed at raising sh2bn for a state-of-the-art science laboratory.
The event has received a significant boost with the confirmation of Vice President Jessica Alupo’s attendance as the guest of honor.
The school, located in Sheema district, is poised to benefit from this significant investment in its infrastructure, paving the way for its students to excel in science and technology.
With a rich history dating back to the 1980s, Masheruka Girls S.S has evolved from a mixed school to an all-girls institution in 1999. Today, it boasts a student body of 900, with 357 students receiving financial support through bursaries.
According to the school headmistress, Dr. Catherine Nuwagira Kangume, the bursaries are essential in supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The fundraising event will commence with thanksgiving prayers led by Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni of West Ankole Diocese at 9:00 am.
Organizing committee chairman Fred Mugabe has extended an invitation to all alumni to attend and contribute to the construction of the science block. “We call upon all old boys and girls to join us in this noble cause and welcome our Vice President,” he said.
According to Dr. Medard Twinamatsiko, chairman of the school board of governors, the new laboratory will enable students to excel in science and technology, equipping them to tackle global challenges. “The increased enrollment necessitates more infrastructure, especially in science-based facilities,” he emphasized.
Sheema North MP Naome Kibaaju has pledged to ensure that all donations are utilized effectively to construct and equip the laboratory. “I will personally monitor the use of funds to ensure they serve the intended purpose,” she assured.
Some of the school’s notable alumni include Dr. Benson Tuhwezeine (Ministry of Health), Fred Mugabe (NSSF), Anne Muhairwe (Deputy IGG), Johnson Musinguzi (Red Pepper), Doreen Nyanjura (KCCA Deputy Lord Mayor), Dr. Deus Kamunyu (Makerere University), Robert Kagarura (Global Business), Wilfreds Katobe (Sheema Development Association), Didas Natweta (West Ankole Diocese), Elly Kamugisha (Export Promotion Board), Michael Ruhiigwa (Bursar, MUBS), Patrick Musinguzi (Kashaari North), Sharon Bashisha (Uganda Microfinance Support Centre), Harriet Katushabe (Satellite Hotels), Bernard Atwiine (Office of the President), Alice Kembabazi (Ministry of Finance), Patience Atukunda (Chairperson, OGs/OBs), Apollo Kateeba (Magnum Security Ltd), and many others who have made significant contributions in various fields.
