KAMPALA, UGANDA – A shocking incident unfolded in Kampala today, October 18, 2024, when a Ugandan motorist, Mercy Timbitwire Bashisha, allegedly caused an accident and then assaulted a traffic police officer who attempted to stop her.
The drama began at 11:55 AM when the traffic officer from Jinja Road Police Station signaled Bashisha to pull over her white Toyota Land Cruiser (reg. No. UBM 439T). However, she refused to stop and continued driving while using her phone.
After a brief chase, Bashisha parked at the Uganda Manufacturers Association and locked her vehicle. When the officer requested her driving permit, she allegedly intimidated and assaulted him. A video has emerged showing her slapping the officer, who remained calm despite the insults.
The situation escalated further when Bashisha confiscated the police EPS gadget and two phones belonging to the officer. She is currently under detention as investigations continue.
This incident highlights concerns about road safety and the behavior of some motorists in Uganda. The police have urged the public to cooperate with officers and respect the rule of law.
The investigation into Bashisha’s actions is ongoing, and further updates are expected in the coming days.
