UNRA embarks on Mabira Road Repairs, diverts head trucks to Mukono-Kyetume-Katosi-Kisoga-Nyenga/Njeru road

Kampala, Uganda – In a bid to alleviate the woes of motorists plying the Kampala-Jinja highway, the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has initiated repairs on the notoriously potholed Mabira section.

The authority has announced that all heavy trucks will be diverted to the Mukono-Kyetume-Katosi-Kisoga-Nyenga/Njeru road, effective tomorrow. This diversion is aimed at reducing traffic congestion and facilitating smooth execution of the roadworks.

According to UNRA officials, the repair works are part of a broader effort to improve the road user experience at Mabira. The authority has come under increasing pressure from motorists and local residents to address the deplorable state of the road.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation as we work to improve the road user experience at Mabira,” a UNRA spokesperson said.

The Uganda Police Force’s traffic department will work closely with UNRA to ensure adherence to the new traffic flow changes. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and follow the diversion signs to avoid any disruptions to their journey.

The Mabira section of the Kampala-Jinja highway has been a source of frustration for motorists for several years. The road’s poor condition has led to numerous accidents and breakdowns, resulting in significant economic losses.
