According to UNEB, 84,301 candidates, representing 10.7%, passed in Division One, a decrease from last year. A higher proportion of candidates passed in Division Two, with 397,589 securing this grade, followed by 165,284 in Division Three, and 75,556 in Division Four.
However, 64,251 candidates failed the examinations and will not proceed to Senior One, representing 8.2% of the total candidates who sat for the exams.
Despite the reduction in Division One passes, UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo revealed that the overall performance of candidates in 2024 was better than in 2023.
This year, 91.8% of candidates passed the PLE, a notable improvement from last year’s 88.0%.

Addressing the nation, Janet Kataaha Museveni emphasized the importance of furthering education beyond the primary level.
“As stated by UNEB, the performance in the 2024 PLE was overall better than the previous cycle, even though the proportion of learners who got Division One reduced,” she said.”The encouragement I have for all those who passed the PLE is that there are various opportunities for post-primary education, including secondary schools as well as technical education,” Janet Kataaha Museveni added.
