OLD KAMPALA– The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has welcomed the Environment Conservation Campaign initiative spearheaded by Diamond Trust Bank (DTB).
This was part of brief remarks delivered by Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi, the UMSC Secretary General, during a meeting with the DTB Old Kampala Branch Manager, Ms. Christine Akello, and Ms. Namubiru Bridget, Customer Service Officer, at UMSC headquarters on Thursday afternoon, October 10, 2024.
Ms. Akello and Ms. Namubiru presented two mango trees to the UMSC to be planted as part of this year’s greening event. Ms. Akello informed Hadji Muluubya that the bank has set aside a week annually dedicated to customer appreciation, during which they organize events such as environmental awareness campaigns. On the designated day, they promote environmental conservation by encouraging practices such as replacing one cut tree by planting two new trees, aimed at sustaining ecosystems for future generations.
In response, Hadji Muluubya disclosed that the environment program aligns well with UMSC’s renowned Ramadhan Green Friday conservation campaign, which is marked annually on the first Friday of the Holy Month of Ramadhan.
“Since the inception of the Ramadhan Green Fridays, the council has managed to plant hundreds of trees nationwide,” Hadji Muluubya said. He also expressed gratitude to Diamond Trust Bank for their continued close working relationship, describing the event as one of the channels that will further strengthen cooperation between the two institutions.
Present at the meeting were Hon. Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, Deputy Secretary General in charge of Finance and Administration, and Ms. Afua Mugumya, the UMSC Accountant.
