The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) Idaad & Thanawi Examinations Board has released the 2024 examination results at the board headquarters in Kawempe.
According to the eight-page results booklet presented by Dr. Sheikh Ziyadi Swaleh Lubanga, the Board Secretary, a total of 2,563 students registered for the Idaad (O-Level) exams, while 754 registered for Thanawi. The board also registered students from other countries, including Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Somalia, Botswana, Sudan, Britain, and Turkmenistan.
Out of these, 2,334 students passed the Idaad exams, while 726 passed the Thanawi exams.
In the Idaad category, Faith & Civilization (Islamic Studies) was the best-performing subject, while Quran Memorization & Exegesis recorded the lowest scores. Meanwhile, in Thanawi, Prophetic Traditions and Sources of Prophetic Traditions were the best-performed subjects, whereas Arabic Language and Arabic Literature saw lower marks.
The results were officially released at an event presided over by His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Hafidh Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the 2nd Deputy Mufti, who represented His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda. Dr. Sheikh Bukenya commended the Examinations Board for its significant contributions to the education sector. He also extended his gratitude to parents, school directors, headteachers, teachers, and learners for their collective efforts.
Dr. Sheikh Bukenya urged stakeholders to remain vigilant against exam malpractice, emphasizing that cheating is detestable in the sight of Almighty Allah, as taught by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He also called on parents to continue instilling good morals and discipline in their children to raise responsible citizens.
Several key officials also addressed the gathering.Hon. Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, representing Sheikh Juma Bakhit Cucu, the UMSC Education Secretary currently on sick leave, reminded unregistered schools to officially enroll under the recognized Examination Board, warning that unregistered certificates would not be recognized.
Additionally, Sheikh Hatimu Numan Wamala, the Board Chairman, urged school management to empower their Directors of Studies to ensure all subjects in the curriculum are thoroughly taught. He warned that skipping essential subjects leads to gaps in students’ understanding of Islamic theological concepts.
Notable figures present at the event included Sheikh Hamid Sserwadda Busungu, the Regional Assistant to the Mufti in charge of Kampala, among others.
