KAMPALA– Uganda Law Society (ULS) has fixed the 17th of December 2024, as the date for an extraordinary meeting in which members are expected to come up with final decisions on a number of matters within the Association.
“To enable the entirety of our members to have a say in our effort to sanitize our Council, we are set to hold an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on the 17th day of December 2024 at Imperial Resort Beach , Entebbe, starting at 2:00 PM” reads part of the announcement signed by Eddie Nangulu, the interim honorary Secretary of ULS
Among the key issues to be discussed in this meeting, includes coming up with a final decision on Philip Munaabi (Secretary General) and Turyamusiima Geoffrey ( Council member for Central region) who were recently suspended from office.
On the same date, the members will election of ULS nominees to the Judicial Service Commission , reviewing of previously referred books of Accounts and other matter which may arise.
The meeting has been called a few days after some council members attempted to overthrow Isaac Ssemakadde, the elected President of ULS.
On Sunday 24th November 2024, Philip Munaabi, the Secretary General (then) announced that the council had suspended Isaac Ssemakadde (President) and his deputy Anthony Asiimwe as a result of mismanaging this umbrella Association of legal practitioners in the country.
The resolution which was said to have been endorsed by the majority members, it was signed by Philip Munaabi who informed the public that he had been assigned to be the interim leader of the Association which was later on opposed by other members, thus leading to his suspension and Turyamusiima.
