In this session we are going to hear 17 cases , two rulings Mato u Vs Attorney General has been dismisses because they failed to adduce enough evidence to prove that they were government workers requiring Attorney General to compensate them.

After central here , we are going to proceed with cases originating from Soroti , Lira al, Gulu and Mbarara. We have hope that we shall hear these cases up to March because we have received enough funding.”

Some of the complaints awaiting their cases to be addressed at UHRC headquarters in Kampala on Tuesday.

On the delays, she pointed out a number of factors like lack of a well composed commission, lack of enough funds among others

“We are ensuring that atleast this tribunal seats twice a month which means that we hear over twenty cases per month. We have over one thousand cases and there is hope that if we go by that pace , we shall dispose them off in the shortest period possible.” Remarked Nansamba

These activities of the tribunal are a fulfillment of the Commission’s mandate under Article 52 (1) (a), 53 (1) and 53(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda of receiving, investigating, adjudicating and offering redress in all complaints of human rights violation.

The sessions are being supported by the Governance and Security Programme formerly Justice Law and Order Sector (JLOS) and for the first time Government of Uganda.
