KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda’s startup scene has witnessed significant growth in 2024, with several companies making notable strides in innovation and entrepreneurship.

A total of 15 startups have been recognized for their outstanding performance in various sectors, including technology, healthcare, finance, and education.

SafeBoda, a transportation startup, has expanded its services to include financial inclusion, providing users with a digital wallet to save, send money, and pay bills. This move has solidified SafeBoda’s position as a leader in digital payments and financial services.

Xente, a digital payments startup, has simplified transactions for businesses and individuals, enabling cashless payments across the country. Xente’s platform has been adopted by numerous businesses, reducing the need for physical cash and increasing efficiency.

EzyAgric, an agricultural startup, has empowered smallholder farmers with tools to boost productivity, including access to financial services, crop advice, and market connections. EzyAgric’s innovative approach has improved the livelihoods of thousands of farmers across the country.

ClinicPesa, a healthcare startup, provides financing solutions for medical expenses, enabling individuals to access quality healthcare without financial strain. ClinicPesa’s platform has been praised for its user-friendly interface and efficient service delivery.

Tugende, a financial services startup, offers lease-to-own financing for boda-boda riders and small business owners, enabling them to own assets and improve their livelihoods. Tugende’s innovative financing model has been recognized for its impact on economic empowerment.

Ugabus, a transportation startup, has transformed intercity travel with its online booking platform, enabling users to compare prices, book tickets, and track buses in real-time. Ugabus’s platform has increased efficiency and transparency in the transportation sector.

BrainShare, an education startup, provides a digital platform for students to access educational resources, including e-books, videos, and online courses. BrainShare’s innovative approach has improved access to quality education, particularly in rural areas.

Zofi Cash, a financial services startup, provides instant salary advances to employees, enabling them to access financial services and improve their financial well-being. Zofi Cash’s platform has been recognized for its innovative approach to financial inclusion.

Patapia, a procurement startup, connects buyers and suppliers on a digital platform, reducing costs and increasing efficiency in business procurement. Patapia’s platform has been adopted by numerous businesses, improving supply chain management and reducing costs.

Awamu Biomass Energy, a renewable energy startup, provides affordable and sustainable energy solutions, including biomass stoves and briquettes. Awamu’s innovative approach has reduced deforestation and improved air quality, particularly in rural areas.

SolarNow, a renewable energy startup, provides affordable solar energy solutions, including solar panels and solar-powered irrigation systems. SolarNow’s innovative approach has improved access to clean energy, particularly in off-grid communities.

Teheca, a healthcare startup, provides home-based healthcare services, including post-surgery care and elderly assistance. Teheca’s platform has been praised for its user-friendly interface and efficient service delivery.

Emata, a financial services startup, provides loans to farmers and small business owners, enabling them to access financial services and improve their livelihoods. Emata’s innovative approach has improved access to financial services, particularly in rural areas.

ChapChap, a financial services startup, provides digital tools for business management, including inventory tracking, payments, and loans. ChapChap’s platform has been adopted by numerous small businesses, improving efficiency and reducing costs.

Kaaro Health, a healthcare startup, provides telemedicine services, including digital consultations and diagnostics. Kaaro’s innovative approach has improved access to quality healthcare, particularly in rural areas.

These startups have demonstrated exceptional innovation, resilience, and growth, and are expected to continue shaping Uganda’s entrepreneurial landscape in the years to come.
