DHAKA, BANGLADESH – Uganda’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Professor Joyce Kakuramatsi Kikafunda, has presented her credentials to the President of Bangladesh, Mohammed Shahabuddin.
The ceremony, held at the President’s office, Bangabhaban, in the capital Dhaka, marked a significant step in strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Professor Kikafunda, who is also accredited to India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Maldives, Nepal, and Bhutan, inspected a Guard of Honour mounted by the Special Security Force Regiment of the Bangladesh Army.
During the presentation, President Shahabuddin warmly welcomed Professor Kikafunda and emphasized the importance of continuous high-level exchanges between the two nations.
“He stressed that such visits would pave the way for deeper bilateral cooperation in key sectors, including agriculture, foreign affairs, defence, and waiver of visas for holders of diplomatic, official, and service passports,” a statement from the Ugandan High Commission said.
Professor Kikafunda concurred with President Shahabuddin, pledging to deepen the already good bilateral relations between Uganda and Bangladesh.
She invited Bangladesh to invest in Uganda’s agro-industry, particularly in the cotton value chain, to boost their textile industry. Other areas of potential cooperation include health, especially pharmaceuticals, information and communication technology (ICT), and education.
“The High Commissioner urged Bangladesh to take advantage of Uganda’s favourable business environment and invest in various sectors for the mutual benefit of both countries,” the statement added.
The presentation of credentials marks the beginning of Professor Kikafunda’s tenure as Uganda’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh.
The development is seen as a significant step in strengthening Uganda-Bangladesh relations, which have been growing steadily in recent years.
Uganda and Bangladesh have cooperated in various areas, including trade, agriculture, and education.
The invitation for Bangladesh to invest in Uganda’s key sectors is expected to boost economic ties between the two nations.
