KAMPALA, Uganda – Uganda’s coffee exports saw an impressive 82.9% increase in value in August compared to the same period last year, driven by higher global prices.
According to the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA), the country shipped 837,915 60-kilogram bags of coffee worth $221.6 million in August. This surpasses last year’s exports of 743,517 60-kilogram bags valued at $121.64 million.
The surge is attributed to rising global coffee prices due to dry conditions in major coffee-producing countries like Brazil and Vietnam.
Over the past 12 months, Uganda earned $1.4 billion from coffee exports, up from $918.4 million the previous year. As Africa’s largest coffee exporter, Uganda’s coffee industry continues to be a significant contributor to the country’s foreign exchange earnings.
The UCDA reports an upward trend in coffee export earnings in recent years, with Uganda’s coffee sector expected to continue growing.
