KAMPALA, UGANDA – A pharmacy student from Kampala International University (KIU) has been awarded a coveted travel grant to Indonesia after excelling in an international phytomedicine training program.
Tony Omara, a fifth-year Bachelor of Pharmacy student, was competitively selected from a global pool of applicants to participate in the University of Indonesia’s Fifth International Undergraduate Pharmacy Training program.
The six-week online program, which brought together 50 participants from countries including Nigeria, Nepal, and China, focused on the role of phytomedicine in addressing prevalent health conditions like hypertension and diabetes.
Omara’s outstanding performance earned him one of two travel grants awarded to top participants, alongside a fellow student from Vietnam.
He will embark on a fully sponsored tour to Indonesia from October 21-28, visiting botanical gardens, collaborating with Indonesian pharmacy students, and exploring the country’s phytomedicine industry.
“This achievement proves that KIU delivers top-tier education, and I am honored to represent our university globally,” Omara said, thanking KIU’s management and staff for their support.
The grant aims to enhance Omara’s knowledge of African and Indonesian traditional medicine, foster collaboration with Indonesian researchers, and provide hands-on experience with cutting-edge research facilities.
KIU’s achievement highlights the university’s commitment to nurturing world-class professionals and its growing reputation as a hub for exceptional talent.
