
KAMPALA, Uganda — The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) has announced the nominees for its 11th edition, recognizing excellence in African film and television. The announcement, broadcast Sunday, March 23, across Africa Magic channels, highlighted the growing creativity in storytelling across the continent.
Among those nominated are Ugandan filmmakers Mathew Nabwiso of Nabwiso Films and Humphrey Nabimanya. Their film, “Sabotage,” received a nomination in the Best Indigenous Language – East Africa category.
Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and Channels for West Africa at MultiChoice, expressed enthusiasm for this year’s selections. “The nominees reflect the depth and innovation shaping our industry,” Tejumola said in a statement. “Each entry captures a unique aspect of Africa’s vibrant storytellers, setting the stage for the next wave of creative voices.”
The awards will honor productions exhibited or broadcast between Dec. 1, 2023, and Dec. 31, 2024. This year’s AMVCA features 27 categories, including 18 non-voting and nine audience voting categories. Additionally, there are two juried accolades: the Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer Awards. A panel of judges, led by filmmaker Femi Odugbemi, will adjudicate the non-voting categories.

Voting is now open and continues until Saturday, May 4, 2025, via the Africa Magic website: http://www.africamagic.tv/AMVCA. The awards ceremony will be broadcast live on Saturday, May 10, 2025, across all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv.
