Ugandan athlete Shida Leni shattered her personal best in the 800 meters event at the 1st Uganda Athletics Federation National Trial on Saturday.
Leni finished second in the event with a time of 2 minutes, 07.07 seconds, eclipsing her previous personal best of 2 minutes, 11.3 seconds by an astonishing 4.23 seconds.
Leni’s coaches, Kevin and Sue O’Connor, said she is fundamentally a 400-200 meter runner and is weak over distance. “Shida is fundamentally a 400/200m runner,” observed Kevin O’Connor. “She is weak over distance, hence the logic of moving her up today to 800m. And she delivered big time!”
O’Connor noted that Leni will return to the 400 meters event later in the season. The impressive performance by Leni has generated excitement among Ugandan athletics fans, who are eagerly anticipating her future competitions.
The 1st Uganda Athletics Federation National Trial is a key event in the country’s athletics calendar, providing a platform for local athletes to showcase their talents and compete for national honors.
