KAMPALA, UGANDA – In a bid to support the ongoing Census 2024 enumeration exercise, the Uganda Prisons Service has issued a directive to redeploy prisons enumerators outside the prisons barracks in underperforming districts and cities.

“We recognize the importance of accurate data collection in the census exercise, and we want to ensure that every household is counted,” said Commissioner General of Prisons Johnson Byabashaija. “By redeploying our enumerators to areas that need extra support, we hope to enhance the overall success of the census.”

According to a message from Byabashaija, the redeployment takes effect on Saturday, May 18, 2024, and aims to enhance the census exercise in areas that require additional support.

“We urge all enumerators to take this directive seriously and report to their new assignments promptly,” said Byabashaija. “We also remind them to dress in smart civilian attire and conduct themselves professionally while interacting with the public.”

All Regional Prisons Commanders (RPCs), District Prisons Commanders (DPCS), and Officer Commanders (OCs) have been directed to enforce this directive in consultation with the Prisons Census Committee Chairperson, Mr. Baine Frank Mayanja, SCP/Deputy Director CCA.

“We appreciate the support of the Uganda Prisons Service in this important national exercise,” said UBOS spokesperson, Mr. Paul Munguci. “Their contribution will undoubtedly enhance the accuracy and completeness of the census data.”

This move is seen as a collaborative effort between the Uganda Prisons Service and the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) to ensure a successful census exercise.
