ONTARIO, CANADA– Ugandan-born journalist Male Deogratius aka Omusawo Tintah, has been awarded the prestigious Media Support Award of Excellence by African Descent Ontario.
The ceremony held towards the end of November , in Ontario, Canada, recognized his remarkable dedication to advocating for human rights and empowering marginalized communities through his media platforms.
Deogratius fled Uganda in 2024 on allegations of being threatened for his journalistic work. Known for his role as a presenter and production manager at Metro FM 90.8, he became a vocal in amplifying the voices of the common person especially the oppressed.
He Is remembered for being one of the founders of a Hoima based news online website with a focus on uncensored stories and human rights violations.
“This award is not just a personal achievement; it’s a piece of love and hope for justice,” Deogratius said in his acceptance speech. He emphasized that, using media as a tool to bring about meaningful change and to fight for dignity and freedom for all.
Hope Alice Birungi, CEO of African Descent Ontario, praised Deogratius’ resilience and tireless advocacy. “He has made an indelible impact on Black communities in Canada and beyond. His work continues to inspire and empower.”
Deogratius dedicated the award to his colleagues, family, and the communities he serves, highlighting the importance of unity and persistence in the fight for justice.
