KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Ugandan People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has deployed its Fourth Aviation Component to Somalia as part of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
The deployment ceremony took place at Soroti Air Force Wing, where Commander Land Force, Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, urged the troops to maintain discipline and physical fitness.
“Discipline and regular physical exercises are essential for success,” Lt Gen Muhanga said. “Good health, achieved through exercise, is critical for performance in the field.”
Maj Gen David Isimbwa, Deputy Commander Air Force, praised the trainees’ dedication and wished them success.
The Fourth Aviation Component, led by Col Solomon Andiandu and Lt Col Pascal Bariine, replaces the Third Aviation Component, which completed its year-long mission.
Since 2020, Uganda’s Aviation Component has provided vital support to peacekeeping efforts, including airlifting troops, transporting supplies, and evacuating casualties.
