KAMPALA, UGANDA – Uganda’s Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Lt Gen Sam Okiding, has emphasized the importance of soldiers understanding the country’s politics and global geopolitics.
Speaking at the conclusion of a week-long political and ideological orientation for Artillery personnel undergoing the Level III Man Course at the School of Artillery and Air Defence in Olilim, Katakwi District, Lt Gen Okiding cautioned that soldiers who lack this understanding pose a significant threat.
“A soldier who does not understand the politics of their country and the world is a potential threat,” Lt Gen Okiding warned.
He reminded troops of their pivotal role in protecting Uganda’s sovereignty, saying: “Uganda is a beautiful country, admired by many. If you don’t protect it zealously, bad actors will destroy it.”
Lt Gen Okiding also urged soldiers to take a strong stance against corruption, warning that it undermines public trust and must be eradicated at all costs.
The orientation course aimed to enhance soldiers’ political awareness and understanding of Uganda’s strategic interests.
Present at the event were Col RD Kitwara, Commandant of the School of Artillery and Air Defence, Lt Col Benon Asaba, Director of Political Commissar Land Force, along with facilitators and officers.
