ENTEBBE – The Entebbe Chief Magistrate, Ms Stella Maris Amabilis, has remanded a TikToker, David Ssengozi, alias Lucky Choice, and Isaiah Ssekagiri to Kigo Prison until November 13 over hate speech and spreading malicious information.
It is alleged that the duo fabricated content against President Museveni, First Lady Janet Museveni, First Son Gen Muhoozi Kainerguba, Calvin Kayanja, NRM leaning artistes Jenifer Nakajubi, aka Full figure, Gereson Wabuyi, aka Gravity Omutujju, and Patrick Mulwana, aka Alien Skin.
Court heard that between the month of September and October 2024 in Wakiso District using his TikTok account, LukyChoice, through a computer, sent or shared information which is likely to ridicule, degrade, demean and promote hostility against President Museveni.
Ssengozi was charged with five other counts of hate speech, which is contrary to section 26 (1) (a) and (c) and (2) of the computer Misuse Act, Cap 96.
The other chrages are two malicious information charges contrary to section 28 (1) and (2) of the Computer Misuse Act, Cap 96, and one count of prohibition of use of another person’s sim card contrary to regulation 29 (1) of the regulation of interception of communications regulation 2023. He denied all the charges.
His co-accused, Ssekagiri, was charged with one count of hate speech and another for malicious information towards President Museveni. He also denied all the charges.
Prosecution case
Court heard that between the months of January and October using his TikTok account, cetewayosense29, Ssekagiri through a computer, sent or shared information which is likely to ridicule, degrade, demean or promote hostility against President Museveni.
Ms Amabilis remanded the two who appeared calm and composed throughout their plea hearing after the State Attorney, Ms Janet Kitimbo, told court that inquiries were still ongoing in the case.
“You will come back on November 13 when the case will come up for mention, you are remanded to Kigo prison till then,” Ms Amabilis indicated.
The two are charged alongside Mr Julius Tayebwa, who is currently remanded to Kigo Prison.
