Two arrested for murder of Eritrean National in Kabalagala

Two suspects linked to the murder of an Eritrean national have been arrested

KAMPALA, UGANDA – Police in Kabalagala have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of an Eritrean national, Hannibal Tewelde, 30, a refugee residing in Lukuli zone, Makindye Division.

The suspects, Siem Fustem and Henok Foto, both Eritrean nationals and refugees living in the same area, were detained at Kabalagala Police Station following the incident.

According to police reports, the deceased and the suspects were drinking at My Place Bar in AD Plaza Apartment along Kibuli Road on the night of July 7, 2024, when a fight broke out. The suspects allegedly hit the deceased on the head with a beer bottle, causing fatal injuries.

The suspects rushed the deceased to Nsambya Hospital at around 7:30 am, where he was pronounced dead. The incident was reported to Kabalagala Police Station at 8:55 am, and police have since been investigating the matter.

Police have recorded statements from witnesses and taken the body to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination. Inquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the murder.

The arrest of the two suspects brings hope to the Eritrean community in Uganda that justice will be served for the senseless killing of their fellow national. The incident highlights the need for increased vigilance and community cooperation to prevent such tragic events.

As the investigation continues, police urge anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
