Kampala, Uganda – The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has cut off water supply to several top city suburbs, leaving thousands of residents and businesses without access to this essential service.
The affected suburbs include Muyenga, Kololo, Nakawa, Mbuya, Kyambogo, and Mulago, among others. These areas are home to a significant number of Kampala’s affluent residents, businesses, and institutions.
According to NWSC, the water supply interruption is necessary for system upgrade works and routine maintenance at the Ggaba water works. The corporation says the maintenance works are aimed at improving water supply services in the city.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and assure our customers that this maintenance work is essential to improve water supply services in the city,” said a spokesperson for NWSC.
The water supply interruption started at 20:00 local time and is expected to last until 06:00 on Saturday. NWSC has advised customers to store enough water and use it sparingly during the interruption period.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas have been forced to seek alternative sources of water, with many resorting to buying bottled water or using water from boreholes.
NWSC has provided toll-free numbers and social media handles for customers to report any issues or seek assistance.
