KAMPALA, Uganda (UG Standard) — Maj. Gen. David Mugisha, Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC), has commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for transforming the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) into a capable, efficient, and disciplined force.
Mugisha praised Museveni’s leadership and vision, which has guided the army from its guerrilla roots to a modern, well-structured professional force. He expressed heartfelt appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief for establishing a comprehensive retirement system, acknowledging the dedicated services of generals, senior and junior officers.
At the retirement ceremony of 31 SFC officers in Entebbe, Mugisha also thanked Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces, for shaping the UPDF’s strategic direction and operational effectiveness. He highlighted Kainerugaba’s efforts to modernize and professionalize the force, improve soldier welfare, and promote dignified retirement.
Mugisha advised retirees to live within their means, maintain ties with the army, and explore sustainable investments, particularly in agriculture. He reminded them to uphold Uganda’s core principles of patriotism, Pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation, and democracy.
Brig. Gen. Paul Namawa, SFC Chief of Staff, thanked the retirees for their dedicated service, emphasizing that retirement marks the beginning of new opportunities. Col. Mango Baraza, Director Human Resource Management-SFC, stressed the importance of retirement in ensuring a balanced and effective force.
Warrant Officer 1 Frank Wamala expressed gratitude to the UPDF leadership and Mugisha for their guidance and vision.
The ceremony was attended by senior military officials and invited guests.
