Soroti High Court is set to hold a special session in memory of the late Chief Magistrate, Margaret Aanyu, who passed away on Sunday after a brief illness. The session, which has been okayed by the Chief Justice, will take place on Thursday 19th October, in the evening.
Justice Dr Henry Peter Adonyo, the Soroti Resident Judge, emphasized that the special session and vigil at the Court grounds was in honor of the Late for the 14 years of dedicated judicial service. He noted that since the unfortunate passing of the Chief Magistrate, it was therefore the duty of the Judiciary family in the Circuit plus the entire Teso fraternity to bid her a befitting farewell since Soroti was her last court of reference.
Justice stakeholders under the circuit, earlier in a meeting chaired by Justice Adonyo, made necessary arrangements for special session.
He also observed that the program shall include a church service, public viewing of the body, and eulogies from various justice participants. Additionally, Chief Magistrate Aanyu’s body will remain within the court premises overnight, the first of its kind in the history of the Court.
A condolence book has been opened at the Court for court users and justice actors to pay their respects to the departed Chief Magistrate.”
HW Aanyu will be laid to rest on Saturday October 21 in Kasoka Village, Bukedea District.
