KAMPALA, Uganda — Saudi Arabia announced Sunday that Eid al-Fitr, a holiday marking the end of Ramadan, will be celebrated on March 30.
The Saudi government made the announcement after religious committees spotted the crescent moon on Saturday, signaling the start of the Islamic month of Shawwal.
In Saudi Arabia, Eid al-Fitr celebrations will begin with morning prayers at mosques across the country, followed by traditional breakfasts featuring sweets, dates and Saudi coffee.
Families will gather for their first daytime meal in a month, often featuring traditional dishes such as meat kabsa and biryani.
Eid al-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims worldwide, but customs and traditions vary by region. In Morocco, for example, families often serve couscous with vegetables or special dishes like “tefaya” and “djaj mhmer.”
Qatar also confirmed that Eid al-Fitr would be celebrated on March 30.
Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, began on March 1 and lasted for 29 or 30 days, depending on the country.
