KAMPALA, UGANDA – In a bold move to foster greater regional cooperation and economic development, renowned regional integration activist Ronald Mivule has urged President Yoweri Museveni to establish a dedicated East African Community (EAC) promotion desk at the State House.
In a letter dated, Saturday May 25 to the President, Mivule commended Museveni’s visionary leadership and initiatives aimed at deepening regional integration, and offered his expertise and support to boost the government’s efforts.
The proposed desk would focus on educating the public about the benefits and importance of regional integration, amplifying the President’s efforts and fostering a more informed and engaged citizenry.
“Mr. President, I propose the establishment of a dedicated desk focused on educating the public about the benefits and importance of regional integration,” Mivule wrote. “I am willing to offer my technical expertise and support to this initiative without seeking employment or remuneration, as my ultimate goal is to contribute to the prosperity and unity of the East African Community (EAC).”
Mivule, a staunch member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), has recently announced his ambitions to contest for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) in 2027.
With a proven track record in promoting regional integration and leadership experience, Mivule is well-positioned to drive the EAC’s agenda forward.
“As a dedicated and passionate advocate for regional integration, I have spent several years studying and understanding its intricacies,” Mivule wrote in the letter. “I believe that your leadership and vision for regional integration are crucial to its success, and I am eager to support your efforts in any way possible.”
In a phone interview, Mivule said regional cooperation is key to overcoming challenges and achieving economic growth of the region.
I am committed to serving the people of East Africa and working towards a brighter future for our region,” he said, adding that the proposed desk would be a significant addition to the State House, as it would provide a dedicated platform for promoting regional integration and educating the public about its benefits.
Mivule’s offer to provide technical expertise and support without seeking employment or remuneration demonstrates his commitment to the cause.
The EAC, one of the world’s fastest-growing regional economic blocs, has made significant strides in recent years. With the admission of Somalia as its eighth member, the EAC has expanded its reach and influence.
The Customs Union Protocol has significantly improved trade within the region, while the Electronic Single Window System has reduced the time it takes to clear goods.
Mivule’s call for enhanced EAC promotion comes at a critical time, as the region seeks to deepen its economic integration and address pressing challenges.
