KAMPALA, UGANDA – Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has revealed that detractors of the regime attempted to block his graduation from Cavendish University.

In a statement, Bobi Wine alleged that individuals working for the regime and other detractors petitioned the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) to investigate his academic records. “When news came out that I was set to graduate, the usual detractors got busy and made every effort to stop me,” he said. “Some people, ostensibly working for the regime and other detractors, went as far as petitioning the National Council for Higher Education.”

According to Bobi Wine, NCHE officials demanded all documents related to his studies, including his application form, admission forms, class attendance records, written exams, coursework, and tuition payment records. “NCHE officials went to the University and demanded for every document regarding my studies… It was a very detailed and intense investigation,” he noted.

However, after a thorough investigation, Bobi Wine was cleared to graduate. “It is after a very detailed and intense investigation that I was cleared to graduate today,” he said, relieved. “I don’t know if any other Ugandan student has been subjected to this before.”

Bobi Wine’s graduation was initially delayed due to missing a few lectures in one course unit. However, he expressed gratitude to the lecturers who made it difficult for him to graduate last year, stating, “To the lecturers that made it hard, and eventually impossible for me to graduate last year, well you helped me get everything in place for a legit qualification. I was initially mad at you, but I was wrong, you were right!”

The NUP leader also thanked those who mocked his academic qualifications, saying, “To those who always mocked my academic qualifications, you pushed me to pursue this course. Thank you, and I hope you will now get something better to talk about.”

Bobi Wine dedicated his achievement to his late mother, Maama, saying, “I know Maama would be so proud of me today. But I am comfortable in knowing that she is looking on from above with so much pride.”

The NUP leader’s graduation has been met with congratulations and praise from his supporters and well-wishers. His achievement serves as an inspiration to others, demonstrating that it’s never too late to pursue and achieve one’s dreams. “Let today inspire you to know that you’re never too late to pursue your dreams and achieve them,” Bobi Wine said.
