KAMPALA, UGANDA —Adam Buyinza Luzindana, CEO of Public Opinions, has issued a stern warning to Uganda’s youth about the dangers of sports betting and gambling. According to Luzindana, these activities can lead to a vicious cycle of poverty and unemployment, and can have severe negative consequences on individuals, families, and communities.
“You will remain poor if you can’t avoid sports betting and gambling,” Luzindana said in a recent statement. “These activities may offer temporary escape or entertainment, but they pose significant dangers and disadvantages that can exacerbate the cycle of poverty and unemployment. The odds are often stacked against the bettor, resulting in significant financial losses that can worsen poverty and debt.”
Luzindana also emphasized the emotional toll of sports betting and gambling, saying, “The emotional highs and lows of sports betting and gambling can lead to anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. The time and energy spent on sports betting and gambling could be channeled into productive activities, such as education, entrepreneurship, or skill development.”
Public Opinions, a organization dedicated to empowering Uganda’s youth, is urging stakeholders to invest in education, entrepreneurship, and community engagement to help young people overcome poverty and unemployment. “We need to empower our youth with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed,” Luzindana said. “We need to create jobs, internships, and apprenticeships, and promote responsible financial management and community involvement in sports, arts, and cultural activities.”
Luzindana also called on government and private sector leaders to take action, saying, “We need to work together to create opportunities for our youth and help them avoid the dangers of sports betting and gambling. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and our country to build a brighter future.”
By working together, we can empower Uganda’s youth to build a brighter future and avoid the dangers of sports betting and gambling. As Luzindana emphasized, “Uganda’s youth have immense potential to drive economic growth and development. Let us work together to empower them and build a better future for all.”
