KAMPALA-President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called upon Ugandans to stay home and participate in the 2024 National Housing and Population census that will be held starting on Friday 10th May 2024 up to Saturday 19th May 2024.
In his message to all Ugandans, Museveni revealed that data collected from this exercise will be key in guiding the government and other stakeholders in fulfilling the country’s vision 2040.
“Please avail yourselves and provide our data collectors or enumerators with honest answers to their questions in order to enable them to process the most accurate information about you, your households, and community.”
Museveni also asked all people on the country to welcome Enumerators in their homes and give them honest answers which will enable them process accurate information about their households and communities.
“Successful implementation of this program will influence the well being of all Ugandans and progress the country to desire of national transformation.”
Apart from the President ,many other political , religious leaders, policy makers, state and non state actors have come out publicly and asked the members of the general public to participate in the census activities.
Legal backing
According to section 29(3) of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Act, 1998, any person who hinders an authorized officer, in this case enumerators and other UBOS oficials, from performing lawful duties, refuses to provide required information or makes false declarations commit an offence.
Once convicted, the penalties under the Act are imprisonment of up to six months or a fine not exceeding 30 currency points equivalent to Shs600,000 or both.
