Prove to us that you’re indeed Against the Corrupt – Activists set terms for Minister Anite

KAMPALA-As the fight against corruption continues to take shape in Uganda under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and some government officials, Activists have asked Minister Evelyn Anite to prove that she means what she says when it comes to fighting corruption.

The Minister of State for Investment Evelyn Anite

Last month, Minister for Privatization Hon Evelyn Anite cracked a whip for the top managers of Uganda Investments Authority for mismanaging funds. The matter ended up in State house Entebbe where the President summoned the team including the Minister.

During the ongoing Cabinet retreat in Kyankwanzi, Minister Anite posted on her social media platform that this time corruption is going to be among the top issues to be discussed.

“We are back at kyankwanzi, this time no kneeling from me. The topic is corruption; How can we lose 9.7 trillion due to corruption every year & they say don’t talk because the corrupt are powerful. NO WAY LET’S TALK, NAME THEM ONE BY ONE & STOP CORRUPTION IN UGANDA.” Reads Anite’s tweet on her official page.

On responding to the above , Activists lead by Godwin Toko have listed things which Anite has to do inorder to clear doubt in people’s mind.

“Wouldn’t it be heartwarming if she declared that she’d join the peaceful march to Parliament being organised by

@AloikinOpoloje @SuunaKing_James

And others.”

That, perhaps, she can just send her salary for just two months, 80,000,000/=, to the Rule of Tsar, Male Mabirizi to help him pursue his cases against corruption

“Alternatively, she can simply go to court on Friday and stand surety for

Former Rubaga RCC Anderson Burora to send a clear signal that whistleblowers and people speaking up against corruption aren’t to be targeted.”

“An even more radical choice would be her publicly displaying her declaration of wealth since she joined parliament, and allowing the public to audit it against her earnings in that period. Then, she’d challenge all other employees of government to do the same.”

He added that the Minister has more powers to fight this vice but she has not used it well to people’s satisfaction.

In response, Anite has described the request as provocation through quoting bible scriptures. “Matthew 4:1-11 At that time Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. He fasted for forty days & forty nights & afterwards was hungry. The tempter approached and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread.”
