Propak East Africa, the leading B2B exhibition and conference for the packaging, printing, plastics, and food & beverage processing sectors in East Africa, is gearing up to welcome over 150 exhibitors from more than 35 countries worldwide, from March 12th to 14th, at the Sarit Expo Centre.
Organised by Montgomery Group EA, this year’s edition promises to be the largest yet, with a focus on industry innovation, sustainability, and economic growth.
Angela Kinyua, Portfolio Director at Montgomery Group EA, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event. She said: “We are thrilled to welcome attendees to Propak East Africa 2024. This year’s edition will offer a unique opportunity for industry stakeholders to engage with cutting-edge products and services, participate in thought-provoking sessions, and network with key buyers from Kenya, East Africa, and around the globe.”
Propak East Africa aims to address the pressing challenges and opportunities facing the industry, including the rising demand for sustainable packaging solutions. With Africa’s economic boom driving increased consumption of packaged goods, there is a growing need to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability.
According to statistics, an equivalent of over 2,000 garbage trucks full of plastic finds its way into our oceans, rivers, and lakes each day, a number that is tipped to triple by 2060 if no intervention is taken. A 2020 study published in Science Advances estimates that by 2040, Africa will mismanage 250 million tons of plastic waste if the current trend continues.
“We recognize the importance of sustainability in the industry,” said Angela Kinyua. “Propak East Africa 2024 will feature discussions on circularity, designing for recyclability, and extended producer responsibility, highlighting the industry’s commitment to environmental stewardship.”
Propak East Africa features a comprehensive exhibition showcasing the latest advancements and solutions across the entire value chain, from packaging materials and machinery to printing technologies and food processing equipment. Live demonstrations will provide attendees with a firsthand experience of these innovations. Running alongside the exhibition is a conference featuring a strong focus on sustainability, with the ‘Eastern Africa Packaging Summit’ taking place on the first day as well as the ‘AfriStar Awards’ which will recognize and celebrate the most innovative packaging solutions developed in Africa.
Propak East Africa has garnered support from various organisations, including The Ministry of Trade, Investments and Industry, Kenya Association of Manufacturers, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and several others. With continued growth and a stable economy, East Africa is poised to emerge as a market leader in Africa, attracting international companies and further investment.
