KAMPALA, Uganda — Football fans in Uganda are expressing frustration over high ticket prices for matches at Mandela National Stadium, despite the national team’s underwhelming performance.
The Uganda Cranes have struggled to deliver convincing performances in recent international fixtures, leading fans to argue that the Uganda Football Federation (FUFA) should focus on improving the team’s quality rather than increasing ticket prices.
“We love our national team, but the performances have been disappointing. Now, they want us to pay more for games that leave us frustrated,” said Julius Kalema, a longtime Cranes fan.

Ticket prices for the upcoming World Cup qualification match against Guinea are significantly high, with regular tickets costing 30,000 Ugandan shillings, silver tickets at 50,000 shillings and platinum tickets at 150,000 shillings.
Many fans have expressed frustration over these prices, with some reconsidering their commitment to attending matches due to financial strain.
“Football is a game of the people, and raising ticket prices means many fans will be left out,” said Musisi George, a football enthusiast. “If they want us to pay more, they should at least give us a reason to be excited.”
The Cranes’ recent 3-1 loss to Mozambique has further fueled fan dissatisfaction, with many questioning whether the high ticket prices are justified by the team’s performance.
