In a dramatic turn of events, the Uganda Law Society (ULS) has suspended its Secretary General, Phillip Munaabi, and council member, Geoffrey Turyamusiima, over allegations of plotting a coup aimed at overthrowing the ULS President and Vice President.
In a statement released on Sunday following the council meeting, Isaac Ssemakadde condemned the unauthorized actions of Phillip Munaabi, accusing him of collaborating with Geoffrey Turyamusiima, the Council Member to orchestrate the alleged coup.
Chaired by ULS President Isaac Ssemakadde, the Council condemned the actions of the suspended members, describing them as unlawful and subversive.
The meeting was attended by the majority of Council members, including regional representatives Eddie Nangulu (Eastern), Samuel Muhumuza (Western), and Emmanuel Egaru (Northern), as well as Vice President Anthony Asiimwe and Treasurer Arthur Isiko.
Ssemakadde revealed that the Council had become aware of two documents allegedly signed by Munaabi.

The first, a two-page document dated 23rd November 2024, titled “Council Order No. 1 of 2024: Expulsion of the President and Vice President from the Uganda Law Society Council,” was declared not to be an official record of the ULS Council.
“The document has been confirmed as the unauthorized work of two Council members: Phillip Munaabi and Geoffrey Turyamusiima (hereinafter referred to as “the minority”),” a statement released by Ssemakadde on Sunday via his official X states.
Ssemakadde clarified on his X account that the circulating documents regarding his suspension were fake, stating that neither he nor his vice president were consulted or involved.
“For absolute clarity and avoidance of doubt, the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Council Members representing the Northern, Western, and Eastern regions (constituting the majority of Council) hereby categorically repudiate the above-mentioned documents, confirming they were neither consulted nor involved in their creation or dissemination.” Ssemakadde noted.
Eddie Nangulu has been appointed as interim Secretary following the suspension of Phillip Munaabi.
