MTN Uganda says its Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) business solution has significantly improved Post Bank’s operational efficiency, network reliability, security, and customer experience.
The telecommunications company announced the development following a successful six-month proof of concept (POC) for the technology at two of Post Bank’s branches. Post Bank is the first financial institution in Uganda to adopt the SASE solution, according to MTN.
Post Bank’s Manager of Business Technology Infrastructure Edgar Ntwali said the deployment of SASE, including its SD-WAN component, has enhanced the bank’s operational efficiency, customer service, and cost optimization. He noted the technology offers a scalable solution with a unified dashboard, automated failovers, and improved network reliability, facilitating seamless banking operations.
Ibrahim Senyonga, MTN Uganda’s general manager for enterprise business, emphasized the significance of the achievement, highlighting the collaboration with Huawei on SD-WAN and now SASE. He said the solution was rigorously tested to ensure it meets Post Bank’s needs and that the partnership demonstrates MTN’s commitment to technological advancements for businesses.
Post Bank’s Chief Technical Officer Janey Rachel Nakato said the SASE deployment supports the bank’s digital transformation strategy. She noted the collaboration with MTN has been valuable in optimizing performance and cost while improving customer experience. Nakato added that the SD-WAN SASE solution enhances reliability across their branches, supporting initiatives like paperless banking and secure transactions.
Nicholas Mpanga, MTN Uganda’s senior consultant for managed network solutions, described SASE as a transformative network and security framework that modernizes connectivity, enhances security, and streamlines operations by integrating networking (SD-WAN) and security into a unified, cloud-delivered solution. He said SASE offers financial institutions a scalable, resilient, and cost-effective approach to network security, which is critical for data security, regulatory compliance, and customer experience.
SD-WAN, a component of SASE, is described as an intelligent software solution that optimizes connectivity across multiple locations, providing faster, more reliable, and secure connections while reducing operational costs. MTN Uganda’s SASE and SD-WAN offerings are powered by vendors such as Huawei, Cisco, and Fortinet.
