The Uganda Police Force’s Flying Squad unit has recovered seven stolen vehicles and arrested 13 suspects in connection with motor vehicle thefts in various areas of Kampala and neighboring districts.
The operation, conducted on June 3, 2024, targeted areas in Bunamwaya, Kawempe-Kalerwe, Mukono, and Ndeeba, and resulted in the arrest of suspects, including Musinguzi Julius, Ssemyalo Rashid, Kasibante Stephen, and Wandera John, among others.
The recovered vehicles include a Noah grey (UAP 042N), Vitz grey (SSD 992BC), Probox grey (UBD 592G), and two Isuzu Forwards (UAX 827P and UAG 608C), among others.
According to police, the suspects are believed to be part of a criminal gang that operates in Central and Western Uganda, stealing vehicles and selling them in Kampala and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
ACP Rusoke Kituuma, the Press and Public Relations Officer of the Uganda Police Force, said, “We implore car owners to exploit target hardening techniques, for instance, the installation of car trackers.” He commended the Flying Squad unit for their efforts in disorganizing criminal activities and urged the public to support the police in fighting crime.
This operation is a significant achievement in the police’s efforts to combat criminal activity in the country.
