KAMPALA, Uganda — A police ballistic expert testified Tuesday in the murder trial of Molly Katanga, accused of killing her husband.
Derrick Nasawali, a forensic examiner with the Directorate of Forensic Services, said he examined a black pistol gun, a pistol magazine with live ammunition and a cartridge casing recovered from the crime scene.
“I was required to examine the exhibits and establish whether the pistol could discharge ammunition, and if so, to ascertain whether the cartridge casing was discharged by the said pistol,” Nasawali testified.
Nasawali said his analysis showed the pistol was in good working condition and capable of discharging live ammunition. He also found that a spent cartridge casing was discharged by the pistol.
“The general look and microscopic details of marks left by the gun on the test-fired samples were similar to those on the cartridge case,” Nasawali said.
Gunshot residue was detected on swabs from the deceased’s wounds, the muzzle of the gun,” Nasawali testified.
“In my opinion, the spent cartridge was discharged by the pistol,” Nasawali concluded.
Molly Katanga is accused of murdering her husband, Henry Katanga, on Nov. 2, 2023, at their home in Mbuya. Her trial continues.
