According to the statement signed by Anthony Asiimye, the Deputy President, these have insisted that despite of the court ruling, their President will not be detained as per the orders of Court.
“Last week’s unfortunate statements of the Chief Justice at the opening of the New Law Year confirmed the extreme measures which our detractors have been plotting to oppress the Radical New Bar, starting with its courageous and charismatic President Isaac Kimaze Ssemakadde, in a desperate bid to undermine our efforts to advocate for justice and accountability.” Reads part of the statement
That for all along they have remained vigilant and prepared for their next move, including today’s one-sided, irregular contempt of court decision by Judge Musa Ssekaana that is manifestly void and of no legal effect according to them.
“However, our immediate focus is the campaign to constitute the forthcoming Judicial Service Commission, with democratically elected ULS nominees, who will expedite past, present and future investigations and publish its findings. They will also champion reforms to ensure merit, transparency, accountability and equal opportunities in our judiciary.”
Asiimye further called upon all Advocates to remain strong during these challenging moments as they continue to push for their common cause.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that by the time this decision was delivered, Ssemakadde had already left the country.
