Kampala, Uganda (UG Standard) – Opportunity Bank Uganda Limited and Buganda Land Board (BLB) have announced a landmark partnership Thursday, aimed at empowering thousands of Ugandans holding Bibanja to secure Certificates of Title for their land.
The agreement will provide critical financial support and resources to Bibanja holders, enhancing land security, increasing access to credit, and driving sustainable development.
“We have always been committed to providing affordable and accessible financial services to individuals and this partnership with Buganda Land Board is a direct response to the ardent need for access to credit, unlocking the economic potential of people’s land and opportunities to secure housing. With the title in hand, these individuals will be able to access financial products, seek funding for development and create sustainable livelihoods for their families,” said Owen Amanya, CEO of Opportunity Bank Uganda.
Under the terms, Buganda Land Board will identify eligible Bibanja holders and recommend them for financial support, while Opportunity Bank will provide necessary financing to secure titles. BLB will oversee the titling process.Simon Kabogoza the CEO Buganda landboard emphasised that the partnership is expected to continue making a positive impact ensuring Bibanja holders secure legal rights to the land they occupy which in turn will open up significant opportunities in terms of financial access and personal development.
“Secure land ownership is the foundation of economic growth,” said Mr. Kabogoza “We’re committed to making this a reality for our people.”
The partnership is expected to roll out in the coming months.
Opportunity Bank Uganda Limited is a licensed financial institution regulated by the Central Bank of Uganda, while Buganda Land Board manages land administration within the Buganda Kingdom.
