KABALE– The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on Thursday held an ODPP-CID meeting in Kabale with an aim improving communication, coordination and cooperation between the two institutions in order to enhance service delivery in the Criminal Justice system.
This gathering was graced by the presence of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Hon. Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo. In her remarks, Abodo emphasized that working for the people should be at the forefront of Prosecutors’ and Investigators’ work in order to facilitate timely justice.
She also encouraged community sensitization as well as timely implementation of government programs. Furthermore, the DPP commended her officers in the region for their excellent working skills and ethics.
The Deputy DPP Mr. George William Byansi highlighted crucial areas for the Prosecutors and Investigators, such as ensuring good quality investigations, timeliness in concluding cases, legal knowledge, proper management of exhibits, in-depth case file perusal, and court preparation on top of good record keeping.
The Resident District Commissioner Kabale, Mr. Godfrey Nyakahuma reaffirmed a good working relationship with the ODPP officers and police officers in the region, ensuring peace, security, and social stability.
APC Ibrahim Saiga, the Regional Police Commander expressed the need for increased sensitization of local communities about proper channels of criminal proceedings.
The regional Officer Kabale, Ms. Grace Nabaggala conveyed her gratitude to Justice Abodo for her continued support which resulted into deployment of more staff to this office.
The engagement afforded a fruitful discussion of prevailing issues in the dispensation of Criminal Justice in the region and the determination of the way forward.
This meeting was attracted members of Top Management of the ODPP who included ; Mr. Asiimwe John Baptist-Deputy DPP and Ms. Viola Tucungwirwe-Principal Policy Analyst, Heads of ODPP stations in Kabale Region, District Police Commanders, District CID Officers, Prosecutors, and Police Officers among others.
