A new Islamic learning centre has been officially opened in Mukono District, Uganda, with the aim of providing quality education to children of all faiths.
The Habibu Islamic Learning Centre, founded by Sheikh Saadi Habibu Kawesa, was commissioned on Sunday by Sheikh Imran Abdunoor Ssali, representing the 2nd Deputy Mufti, His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Hafidh Muhammad Harunah Bukenya.
The school’s infrastructure, which includes classroom blocks, administration offices, dormitories, a mosque, staff quarters, and a borehole for safe water provision, was funded by the Nile Humanitarian Charity in Iganga.
Sheikh Ssali praised the charity’s generosity, saying it was in line with Islamic teachings based on the Holy Qur’an and the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He also urged other Muslim organisations and individuals to follow their example.
Sheikh Ssali encouraged the local community to support the school project, emphasizing the importance of education in development. He also advised Muslim parents to prioritize their children’s education and separate politics from educational matters.
Sheikh Saadi Habibu Kawesa pledged that the school would provide quality education to all children, regardless of their faith. He noted that although the school is Muslim-founded, it would cater to children from families of other faiths.
Other attendees at the commissioning ceremony included Sheikh Abbas Ssenkuba, the Mukono District Kadhi, and local leaders.
