Effective July 1, 2024, the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC), formerly known as Entebbe Zoo, has increased its entry fees to improve services and enhance visitor experience.

According to Dr. James Musinguzi, the UWEC Executive Director, the increment will help them improve the services being rendered at the zoo, and in the process, it will help attract more tourists to visit the centre. “Effective July 1st, 2024, the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) will be adjusting its entry fees to enhance visitor experience and support animal welfare efforts,” said Dr. Musinguzi.

Dr. Musinguzi further added that the centre had not increased its fees in the last 10 years, yet the cost of items needed to care for the animals in the zoo has been on the rise. “The new fees will be Shs 20,000 for East African adults, up from Shs 10,000, while citizen East African children (3-14 years) will pay Shs 10,000, up from Shs 5,000,” he explained.

Booked school groups, Monday to Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, will pay Shs 8,000 per student, up from Shs 4,000, while booked school groups on Thursday and Friday will pay Shs 8,000, up from Shs 5,000. Tertiary institutions will pay Shs 8,000, up from Shs 6,000. Accompanying school teachers will still pay Shs 10,000, while non-resident adults and non-resident children (3-14 years) will still pay $15 and $10 per person, respectively.

The UWEC Executive Director noted that fees for other services like “Behind the Scenes Experience,” Chimpanzee up close, keeper for a day, and the exclusive VIP experience remain unchanged.
