Major Edgar Mugizi Ankwasa, General Manager of NEC Uzima Ltd, has categorically denied allegations that the company received a presidential directive, commonly known as a “Blue Letter”, from State House, instructing it to supply Uzima water to the Parliament of Uganda without following the required formal procurement process.
In a statement, Major Ankwasa clarified that NEC Uzima Ltd, producers of Uzima Natural Mineral Water followed the law and underwent a rigorous procurement process to supply Uzima Natural Mineral Water to the Parliament of Uganda. The company responded to a bid notice (POU/NCONS/2023-2024/00434), emerged as the Best Evaluated Bidder, and signed a formal contract with the Parliament after obtaining clearance from the Solicitor General.
Major Ankwasa emphasized that NEC Uzima Ltd is a locally incorporated company that employs both military and civilian personnel, contributing to national development through tax payments and other statutory requirements. He stressed that there was no presidential directive to favor Uzima water, and the company won the competitive bid fairly alongside other local mineral water producers.
“We wish to assure the public that NEC Uzima Ltd is a law-abiding company that upholds transparency and integrity in all its dealings,” Major Ankwasa stated. “We are proud to be a local company contributing to Uganda’s development, and we will continue to provide quality products and services to our customers.”
UZIMA Natural Mineral Water was launched on 6th Feb 2016 during Tarehe Sita celebrations at Kololo Independence ceremonial grounds.
President Museveni has last year commissioned the New NEC Uzima Natural Mineral Water Production Plant in Kakiri barracks, Wakiso district.
