
KAMPALA – The National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) celebrated International Women’s Day by showcasing game-changing agricultural Agri-innovations designed to empower women farmers in Uganda. At the national celebrations held in Kyankwanzi District, NARO exhibited a range of cutting-edge technologies aimed at easing labor, enhancing productivity, and boosting incomes for women in agriculture.
“Empowering women in agriculture is key to boosting household incomes, ensuring food security, and fostering rural development,” said Kenneth Katungisa, Chairperson of the NARO Governing Council.

The innovations on display included modern agricultural machinery that reduces drudgery, biofortified crops rich in essential nutrients, value-added products from coffee and cocoa, and livestock health and nutrition support solutions, all part of NARO’s Agri-innovations.
Women farmers and agripreneurs who attended the event lauded the practical solutions demonstrated by NARO, citing the availability of machinery that eases farm labor and the value addition techniques that enhance market opportunities.
“The technologies showcased by NARO today are a game-changer for women farmers like me,” said one attendee. “We are eager to adopt these Agri-innovations and improve our livelihoods.”
NARO’s participation in the International Women’s Day celebrations was spearheaded by the Chairperson of the NARO Governing Council, alongside Directors of Research from various institutes and other key officials.
The event highlighted NARO’s commitment to driving agricultural innovation that supports women’s empowerment, ensuring they have access to the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to thrive in the sector.
