Erias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola has emerged as the winner of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party ticket to contest the Kawempe North parliamentary seat. This development comes after the passing of the late Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya on January 9th.
Following weeks of intense competition and internal party discussions, Nalukoola secured the endorsement, outpacing nine other contenders vying for the party’s flag. His victory was preceded by a heated debate held last Friday by the NUP leadership, where all aspirants showcased their ability to represent Kawempe North in Parliament.
Nalukoola impressed both party officials and supporters, demonstrating his readiness and capability for the role. With the NUP ticket in hand, he is now set to face candidates from other political parties in the upcoming by-election scheduled for next month.
The race is expected to be highly contested, given NUP’s strong political influence in Kawempe North. NUP party president Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, urged all aspirants to respect the party’s decision and support the endorsed candidate, emphasizing the importance of party unity.
Nalukoola’s victory sets the stage for an intense by-election, as he seeks to retain the seat for NUP and continue the legacy of the late Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya.
