BOMBO– The Archbishop of Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has underscored the significance of Music, Dance and Drama (MDD) as powerful tools for preaching the gospel.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by Mr. Samuel Bakutana, the Provincial Fathers’ Union President, on Saturday during the Provincial Mothers’ Union MDD competitions at St. Janani Luwum Schools in Bombo, Luwero Diocese, Archbishop Kaziimba noted that MDD not only spreads the gospel but also builds faith and strengthens marriages and families.
“I commend Mothers’ Union for organizing these music competitions. It is one of the tools for preaching the gospel, to build our faith, our marriages, and our families,” he said.
He expressed his gratitude to the leadership of Janani Schools for hosting the competitions and appreciated all the choirs for their participation from the diocesan to the provincial level.
“I congratulate you for having gone through these levels up to the Provincial level. It’s not a small achievement since Music, Dance, and Drama activities naturally call for time, resources, and commitment. Like Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:58, ‘Your labour is not in vain’,’” the Archbishop added.
The Diocese of West Ankole emerged as the winner of the competition, followed by the Diocese of Northern Uganda in second place and the Diocese of Lango in third place.
Other participating Dioceses were; Namirembe, Mukono, Central Busoga, Bukedi and South Rwenzori.
Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni of West Ankole Diocese attributed their success to the effort, resources, and time invested in the competitions.
He expressed his appreciation to the Archbishop, the event organizers, and the choirs for their dedication.
“I am thankful to the husbands and families of these wonderful women for giving them space, consent, and encouragement. This performance and position is another good mark about our Diocese. Together with love, unity, and determination, West Ankole is heading for greatness,” noted Bishop Twinomujuni.
According to the Provincial Mothers’ Union President, Mrs. Grace Murengyezi, the main goal of these competitions was to spread the gospel through music, dance, and drama.
She was upbeat about the success of the competitions noting that talent was discovered. She commended participants for their level of effort and preparedness.
“The response has been overwhelming. We have seen remarkable talent and dedication from all participating choirs. The competition has showcased their skills and strengthened bonds between dioceses, fostering unity and friendship among participants,” said Mrs. Murengyezi.
A total of eight choirs from different dioceses across the four regions of the Church of Uganda participated in the competitions.
