KAMPALA, Uganda — President Yoweri Museveni is set to embark on a four-day tour of the Busoga Sub-Region, aiming to assess the progress of the Parish Development Model (PDM), a government initiative designed to lift millions of Ugandans out of poverty.
The tour, scheduled to begin on January 22 and conclude on January 25, will take Museveni to various districts in the region, where he will engage with farmers, industrial leaders, and the general public.
On the first day of his visit, Museveni will meet with farmers in Namutumba, Luuka, and Jinja districts, seeking to evaluate the impact of the PDM on agricultural production and livelihoods.
The following day, January 23, the president will commission the Presidential Skilling Hub, a facility aimed at equipping youth with valuable skills to enhance their employability. He will also address a public gathering at Lwanda Primary School and hold a meeting with Busoga Sub-Region leaders at Mayuge district headquarters.
In the evening, Museveni will engage in a live interaction with the media, fielding questions and providing updates on the PDM’s progress.
On January 24, the president will commission the Abyssinia Steel Factory and address a public rally at Kamuli Youth Center, Kamuli Municipality. This visit highlights the government’s emphasis on industrial development and job creation.
The final day of the tour, January 25, will see Museveni commission the New Tembo Steel Factory in Iganga and address a boda-boda Mega rally at Iganga High School. This event underscores the government’s commitment to supporting the boda-boda sector, a significant source of employment for many Ugandans.
The Parish Development Model, launched in 2022, aims to transform 40% of Ugandan households engaged in subsistence farming into commercial farming, thereby improving their livelihoods. The initiative focuses on promoting agricultural production, value addition, and market access.
Museveni’s tour is expected to provide valuable insights into the PDM’s effectiveness and identify areas requiring improvement. By engaging with various stakeholders, the president seeks to accelerate the country’s development and improve the lives of Ugandans.
