President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met with Mr. Khaled Al Huraimel, Group CEO and Vice Chairman of Beeah Company, to discuss a potential partnership for waste management in Uganda. The meeting took place during President Museveni’s working visit to the United Arab Emirates.
Mr. Khaled expressed his company’s interest in managing waste in Uganda, highlighting his 15 years of experience in the field and success stories in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and other countries. He proposed constructing a plant that would generate electricity at a reasonable price and create employment opportunities for Ugandans.
President Museveni welcomed the proposal, emphasizing the importance of electricity to Uganda’s economy. “These are the doctors I have been looking for to combat the disease of waste products in our country,” he said. However, he urged Mr. Khaled to ensure that the cost of electricity to consumers remains below US$ 8 cents per unit.
The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including the Attorney General, Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka, and the Ambassador of Uganda to the United Arab Emirates, H.E Zaake W. Kibedi.
This potential partnership aligns with Uganda’s efforts to improve waste management and increase electricity generation. If successful, it could have a significant impact on the country’s economic development and environmental sustainability.
