Entebbe, Uganda – President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated the Uganda Cranes for their successful qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. This achievement marks the third time in eight years that Uganda has qualified for this prestigious biannual competition.
In his congratulatory message, President Museveni acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the players, coaches, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), the Ministry of Education and Sports, and the Ugandan populace. “I congratulate the Uganda Cranes on qualifying for AFCON. Uganda has qualified for the third time in the last eight years of the biannual competition,” Museveni stated.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure across the country, noting significant investments in constructing and rehabilitating facilities. “The government has already committed a lot of resources to construct and rehabilitate the sports infrastructure and we will continue to do so,” Museveni added.

Uganda secured their spot in the AFCON finals by finishing second in Group K, accumulating 13 points. South Africa topped the group with 14 points, while Congo and South Sudan trailed with 4 points and 3 points, respectively. Both Uganda and South Africa will advance to the final tournament in Morocco next year.
The Uganda Cranes clinched their final qualification match with a 1-0 victory over Congo, thanks to a decisive goal from Travis Mutyaba on Tuesday. This win solidified their position and paved the way for their journey to Morocco.
The achievement has ignited a wave of national pride and optimism as the Cranes prepare to represent Uganda on the continental stage once again.
