KAMPALA, Uganda — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni launched Phase 5 of the Optic Fibre Internet project in Uganda’s Karamoja sub-region on [date], aiming to bring modern communication to the area.
The launch event was held at Moroto Municipality Ceremonial grounds and attended by Minister of ICT and National Guidance Hon Dr Chris Baryomunsi.
Museveni unveiled government plans and goodwill for Karamoja, saying the launch marked a significant milestone in the region’s development.
The fifth phase of the Optic Fibre Internet project will cover 73 districts in Uganda, with 130 masts connected to the Parish Development Model (PDM) information systems.
The National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) will support the initiative, enabling the government to install security cameras to combat animal theft in Karamoja.
The PDM information system, hosted by NITA-U, was developed by Kyambogo University, highlighting the growing efficiency of Uganda’s education sector.
The launch is expected to bridge the digital divide in Uganda, particularly in rural areas like Karamoja.
