President Yoweri Museveni, Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), addresses leaders at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi, announcing new measures to tackle corruption and tax evasion in the country.

President Yoweri Museveni has directed the Judiciary to deny bail to suspects accused of corruption, terrorism, rape, defilement, and murder, if the prosecution is ready for trial.

“We must work together to ensure that our country is free from corruption, and that our people enjoy the benefits of their hard work,” President Museveni said. “The Judiciary should not give bail to those accused of corruption, terrorism, rape, defilement, and murder, if the prosecution is ready for trial.”

The President emphasized that corruption is a big problem in Uganda and vowed to tackle it head-on. “We will leave no stone unturned in the fight against corruption,” he stressed. “We will recover every coin that has been stolen and bring the culprits to book.”

President Museveni also announced plans to establish two new units in the State House to investigate and prevent tax theft and corruption. “We are here to discuss how to improve our instruments of governance, especially the State House, to make them more effective in serving the country and the people,” he said.

The President reiterated the need for collective efforts in the fight against corruption, urging leaders to prioritize the welfare of Ugandans over personal interests. “This retreat is a rare opportunity for us to reflect on our work, share experiences, and learn from each other’s successes and challenges,” he said.
