MUBENDE, Uganda — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni began a nationwide tour Tuesday to evaluate the government’s Parish Development Model (PDM), a wealth creation initiative, starting in the Greater Mubende sub-region.
Museveni announced the tour Monday evening on his X account, stating he would spend the week assessing the PDM in the region, which includes the districts of Mityana, Mubende, Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, and Kassanda, as well as the municipalities of Mityana and Mubende. The Greater Mubende sub-region is historically significant as the launch site of Museveni’s 1981 liberation struggle with the attack on Kabamba barracks.
According to Farouk Kirunda, the deputy secretary of the Presidential Press Unit, Museveni’s itinerary began Tuesday with visits to selected model farmers in Mityana and Kyankwanzi districts.
On Wednesday, Museveni is scheduled to launch the Mubende Industrial Hub in Kibuye-Vunga village, Mubende District, and later chair a meeting with Parish Model leaders in Kasanda District.
The tour concludes Thursday with the commissioning of upgraded USMID roads in Mubende Municipality, followed by a mass rally at Saza Playground in Kiboga District, where Museveni is expected to outline the government’s plans for rural development.
The tour is part of the government’s efforts to promote socio-economic development through Operation Wealth Creation and the PDM, aiming to improve household incomes.
Following the Greater Mubende tour, Museveni plans to visit the Rwenzori region and then conclude the PDM assessment campaign in Central Buganda.
Museveni has previously visited the Acholi, Lango, Teso, Karamoja, Bugisu, Busoga, Bukedi, Kigezi, Ankole, Bunyoro, and West Nile regions to assess the PDM, pledging to increase resources based on his findings.
